It seems like each year I have more and more mothers in which to wish a ‘Happy Mother’s Day.’ This year, I added a Mother-in-Law to the list. And even though it was technically her day, she doled out the gifts in treating my wife and I and her other son and his wife (and two kids) to a day at a mega-water park/hotel in Kansas City.

It seems the only gift she wanted this year was to spend a little time with her family. And let’s face it, the only way any of us with spread-out families get that accomplished is to simply plan a time and do it.

My new mother-in-law took it a step further, though, booking a hotel room and giving us all a needed day of relaxation and fun.

I also knew that seeing a thousand kids running around a water park would either motivate me to start a family or scare the heck out of me.

I’ll let you know the resolution later.

The next day it was off to see my mom, dad and sister in Independence.

Without a theme park, hotel and kids involved, we kept it pretty low key with food, cake, gifts and just some general catching up to do.

The wife and I also got to see our close friends north of Kansas City who recently added a second to their household. Her mother’s day gift was also simple - a little peace and quiet out of the house with her mom over brunch.
