NEW YORK (Reuters) - Olympic and world silver medalist Adam
Nelson recorded the third-longest indoor shot-put throw of
all-time to win the Tyson Invitational meet in Fayetteville,
Arkansas, on Friday.Nelson registered 22.40 meters to defeat world outdoor and
indoor champion Reese Hoffa (21.14m) by more than a meter with
the longest put in 19 years.Only U.S. world record holder Randy Barnes (22.66m) and
German Ulf Timmermann (22.55) have recorded longer distances
with both performances coming in 1989.”It meant so much (to win) with my family here,” Nelson
told reporters. “They are from a little town called Turner,
Arkansas. There are about 25 of them here.”I’m in the best shape I have ever been in. I could have
thrown a lot further.”We have the best shot putters in the world (in the United
States). It’s pretty tough (to win).”The best performances of the season were also set in the
men’s 200 and 5,000 meters.World bronze medalist Wallace Spearmon clocked 20.19
seconds, the fifth fastest of all-time, to win the 200 and
Ireland’s Alistair Cragg won the 5,000 in 13:32.01.U.S. collegian Trindon Holliday defeated world indoor
champion Leonard Scott in the men’s 60 meters in 6.60 seconds,
and four-time world champion Allen Johnson, who will be 37 in
