South Central Regional Medical Center, Family Health Center and Wesley United Men hosted the event that drew about 100 men in the first 45 minutes of the three-hour event.
Dan Diers, a physical therapist at SCRMC, said the golf swing analysis is a way to assist those with and without medical problems to be able to enjoy the game with minimum stress to the body.
Samantha Thornton with Jones Family Medical Clinic said her agency participated in the health fair to educate residents on the urgent care and other services being provided at the clinic located on Highway 15 North.
Gwenese Jones, director of nursing at Laurel’s Family Health Center, said the health fair allows her facility to inform the public, as well as assess and inform them about their blood pressure and blood glucose levels.
“Many males have what they call ‘white coat syndrome’ where they don’t like to go to the doctor,” Jones said. “This health fair helps them to feel more comfortable while they receive information about their health.
“This way they can get a lot of services and a lot of questions answered,” she added. “This is a one-stop thing. It’s a mini medical exam offered free.”
