‘Health care focused on you,’ is what you’ll find at LilyCare, a new West Fargo-based health care clinic that opened to patients June 2, at 550 13th Ave. E. in the former Dakota-Heartland building. Family practice physician Tracie Mallberg established the private corporation facility that focuses on full-service care for the entire family with emphasis on women and children.

Mallberg said the goal “is to make LilyCare ‘welcoming’ like the old style of family medicine where you know the patients when you talk to them and they are comfortable about telling you other things. When you know your patients, sometimes a ten minute visit is okay, otherwise it is usually not enough.”

To arrive at that welcoming effect, the name and atmosphere were important and selected after careful consideration with a little help from a family frog named Fred.

She worked a year with the Norman County, Minn., ambulance service in Ada, and then enrolled in medical school at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, spending two years there and two years in Bismarck, before completing her residency in family medicine at the Family Practice Center in Bismarck.

During this time she had four children, the oldest, Mason, was born her first year of medical school. Tatum and Carson followed, and daughter, Tessa, was born the first year of her residency program. Mallberg admits this was a busy and hectic time in her life but “it forced me to organize and keep my head straight.”
