Jason Jungwirth recently helped lift 50 cases of beer from a delivery truck at the family’s liquor store in Oshkosh.
It was all in a day’s work for the 38-year-old Jungwith, who is the third generation of Jungwirths to operate the family owned business — Jordy’s Beverage Mart — at the corner of West Ninth Avenue and Rugby Street.
His dad, Jordy Jungwirth III, couldn’t be happier that his son, who is co-owner of the business, is keeping it all in the family. They’ve put a lot of love into the business.
Jordy Jungwirth said his dad started the business in a humble way with five cases of People’s Beer, five cases of Chief Oshkosh beer and about 10 bottles of liquor. He said his father sold coffee, but had his eye on a property where a meat market and slaughterhouse was located — the site of the future Jordy’s Beverage Mart.
“It was Miller’s Meat Market and my dad said if it ever became available it would be a great place to start a liquor store,” Jordy Jungwirth said. “It became available and he rented it. I remember dad had only $500 to his name when he started the business.”
“Overall, it’s good working with my dad,” Jason Jungwirth said. “I respect him. Everything that I know about this business is from my dad and my grandfather. I’m very proud to be part of a third generation family that has been in business for 46 years.”
Athletics runs deep for the 6-foot-4 Jason Jungwirth, who twice was a first team Fox Valley Association all-conference basketball player at Oshkosh West High School in the late 1980s. He went on to play the sport at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and graduated with a degree in psychology.
Jason Jungwirth has future plans for the family business. In the next five years, he wants to add onto the current location.
