Consider what the Reds have done since 1999. Lose and lose big. They’ve had power hitters and big strikeout hitters. NO pitching. What wins? Pitching! Every single day.
So, before you jump, take a look at the potential (yes, I did say “potential”) of the Reds’ starting rotation next year.
- Aaron Harang-has to return to form, doesn’t he? If so, you have an ace.
- Edinson Volquez-we’ve all seen what he can do. Sure, he’s fading, but he’s never thrown 200 innings before.
- Bronson Arroyo-sometimes great, sometimes awful. But gets you 200 innings every single year.
- Johnny Cueto-rookie year has been up and down, but has the talent and the “stuff” to be dynomite.
- Homer Bailey/Daryl Thompson/Matt Moloney/Bobby Livingston/free agent signee
Yes, I know you have to score runs to win, but tell me how effective the Reds have been this year doing just that? Not very. So, let Jocketty put HIS team together before you all jump off the ship. I’ll admit, I’m frustrated. I’m TIRED OF LOSING!!!
But…I see why they’ve made these moves. And I don’t think the Reds are that much worse off. They need to re-shape this roster badly. This is another step of hopefully a lot more to come. Lost with Dunn and Junior. We’ll lose without them. But, at least they are trying a new approach.
Give it some time before you judge…or jump.
